Abba Father — Held, Not Managed

After surrendering control to Adonai — Lord and Master — today my heart rests in something softer and closer: Abba Father.

Abba isn’t a formal title.

It’s not distant or intimidating.

It’s the name a child uses when they need comfort, safety, and reassurance.

Calling God Abba reminds me that before He asks anything of me, He loves me. Before obedience, there is belonging. Before responsibility, there is relationship.

There are days when I slip into trying to manage life on my own — carrying pressure and expectations as if everything depends on me. And in those moments, I don’t always need answers or direction. I need reassurance.

Abba Father meets me there.

He doesn’t relate to me as someone waiting to be corrected, but as a child who is already loved. He doesn’t hold me at arm’s length. He draws me close.

He is our Daddy — and I look to Him for everything.

Scripture reminds us that we are not meant to live in fear or striving, but in the security of being God’s children. When I remember who I belong to, the weight lifts. I don’t have to prove myself. I don’t have to earn my place. I don’t have to get it all right.

I am held.

Abba Father reminds me that even when I don’t have answers, I am not alone. Even when I feel tired or unsure, I am still His. And even when I fall short, His love does not waver.

Today, I want to live from that place — not rushing, not striving, not managing everything on my own — but resting in the truth that I am a child deeply loved by God.

Romans 8:15 NIV
“The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, ‘Abba, Father.’”

Where have you been carrying more than you were meant to carry?

What would it look like to rest in God’s love instead of striving today?

How can you approach God with openness and trust?

Closing Prayer

Abba Father,

Thank You for loving us with a love that is steady, patient, and safe.

When we feel tired, uncertain, or overwhelmed, draw us close.

Help us release striving and rest in the truth that we belong to You.

Remind us today that we are held — fully, freely, and forever.

Amen.
