Jehovah Nissi — The Lord Our Banner

“Moses built an altar and called it The Lord is my Banner.”

Today my heart is resting on the name Jehovah Nissithe Lord our banner.

A banner is something raised high. It identifies who we belong to and who is fighting for us. In Scripture, Moses built an altar and declared, “The Lord is my Banner,” after God brought victory — not because Israel was strong on its own, but because God was leading the battle.

That speaks to me.

There are days when the fight feels personal.
Days when the battles are quiet but heavy.
Moments when I feel worn down and wonder how much strength I have left.

Jehovah Nissi reminds me that I am not fighting alone — and I am not fighting for my own victory. God goes before me. He covers me. He stands as the banner over my life, declaring whose I am even when I feel weak.

Victory doesn’t always look like everything going away. Sometimes it looks like endurance. Sometimes it looks like continuing to trust God even when the outcome isn’t clear yet. And sometimes it looks like simply standing — still believing.

Scripture reminds us:

Exodus 15:3 (NIV)

“The Lord is a warrior; the Lord is his name.”

My part is not to fight in my own strength.
It’s to stay aligned with God.
To keep my eyes lifted.
To remember who is leading the battle.

When I stand under Jehovah Nissi, fear loosens its grip. I remember that the battle belongs to the Lord — and because of that, I can keep moving forward with trust.

Today, I choose to stand under His banner — covered, protected, and guided by God.

Exodus 17:15 NIV

Reflection

Where do you feel like you’re in a battle right now?
How does remembering Jehovah Nissi change how you face it?
What would it look like to trust God with the outcome?

As you breathe in, whisper: “You fight for me.”
As you breathe out, whisper: “I trust You.”

Closing Prayer

Jehovah Nissi, our Banner,
We thank You for going before us and standing over our lives.

When we feel weary or uncertain, remind us that victory belongs to You.
Help us stay aligned with Your truth and trust You with every outcome.
Teach us to stand confidently under Your covering.

Today, we choose to rest in Your strength,
trusting You as the Lord our banner.
Amen.
